February Masterclass

February Masterclass

A moment comes when a collection of pictures stops feeling like random files on a hard drive or a pile of prints in a drawer, and starts asking to live a life of its own in the world.

This 5-7th February February in Cambridge, UK, STANLEY/BARKER is hosting a three day masterclass for photographers ready to turn a project into a book with clarity. A focused, hands-on environment where you will refine your edit, strengthen your sequencing, and understand what it really takes to bring a photobook into the world that stands up to the test of time.

For more than a decade Rachel and Gregory have worked closely with artists to shape and publish photo books that have become touchstones in contemporary photography. Our approach is rooted in craft and a deep respect for the book as an artwork.

Across our days together we will explore sequencing, pacing, editing, design decisions, and the real routes to publication. We will look closely at collaboration, working with designers and printers, and how to protect the core of your idea so it reaches the page with its voice intact.

Taking place in the historic city of Cambridge, only a short distance from London, you will share your project in a small group, receive direct, honest feedback, and take part in focused discussions that bring clarity to your intention and momentum to your book. You will leave with a stronger edit, a clear path forward, and the confidence to take the next step.

If you have a body of work and can feel it leaning toward a book, this is the space to give it shape and move decisively towards the form it is asking for.

Start the year with intention. Apply now.

Words from previous attendees

“The STANLEY/BARKER workshop was such an inspiring experience. Over three days, I started to see my project not just as a series of images, but as a living story, something that could truly come to life through the form of a book. Talking with Rachel and Gregory Barker, and hearing from the visiting artists, really opened my eyes to the power of sequencing and design.” Paris Photo/Aperture book Award Nominee Hohamed Hassan

"The workshop with Gregory and Rachel was truly illuminating. It was important for me to understand how to translate a photographic project onto paper, how to do it through an idea that is both essential and at the same time incisive. - Paris Photo/Aperture book Award Nominee Ciro Battiloro
